For most people it is perfectly safe to have ear wax removed by irrigation.
However if you answer yes to any of the following questions then it is not suitable to have ear wax irrigation.
PRE ASSESSMENT QUESTIONS
Have you had a perforated ear drum less than 8 weeks ago?
Have you had an ear infection less than 6 weeks ago?
Have you experienced any mucous or discharge from your ears in the last 8 weeks?
Have you had any surgery to your ears in the last 18 months other than extruding grommets from the ear drum?
Were you born with a cleft palate?
The most common reason why people have contacted Open Ears for wax removal is due to a hearing loss. Other reasons people can suspect a wax build up in their ears is when they experience a ringing in the ears, some pain or discomfort to their ears, dizziness, itching to their ears or sensation of fullness to the ear.

Harriet has been trained at Rotherham Ear Care Centre in both ear irrigation and microsuction wax removal techniques. At present only ear irrigation is being offered to clients.
For ear irrigation to be most successful it is important that the ear wax has been softened prior to your appointment. Open Ears follows NICE guidance and advises that the blocked ear is treated with a drop of room temperature olive oil twice a day (morning and evening) 5 days in advance of your appointment.
You will be asked to sit during the procedure and hold a small metal beaker to catch the water and wax that drains through the ear canal.
The procedure is approximately 30 minutes in length.
Although your ears are sensitive parts of the body, you should not experience any pain during the procedure.
